The Opportunity:

The Pricing Manager is a very strategic, cross-functional role, requiring someone to champion pricing, and key input costs, market factors, and educate and strategic with the commercial business team in Canada and the USA with some global strategy. Working closely with Sales, Marketing, and Operations, this role is a key contributor to business decisions around margin and customer acquisition strategies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In-depth analysis of commodity markets, examining market dynamics, and understanding the competitive landscape and customer preferences.
  • This individual leads the pricing process, monitors margin performance, and proactively identifies and addresses gaps in, or opportunities to expand, profitability.
  • Collaborates deeply with business development, attending regular customer visits to provide credible support on product price movements and gain insight into customer needs and expectations.
  • Synthesizing data from supplier visits and market analysis, refines pricing strategies that balance customer demands and internal profit expectations, contributing to a well-informed and customer-centric approach in the competitive market.
  • Be the primary financial business partner to the business development team, providing insight on pricing strategies, commodity inputs, market influences, competitive perspective, and account profitability for existing and new business opportunities
  • Initiate regular pricing processes that effectively address commodity and other input fluctuations while ensuring margin performance to targets
  • Create and maintain close relationships with procurement departments to establish booking of ingredients for back-to-back (time & volume-bound) contracts
  • Establish scheduled analysis of product portfolio mix, customer profitability and contracting activity, identify gaps and initiate actions to protect or improve group profitability.
  • Collaborate with North American and HQ pricing colleagues to share insights and align pricing strategies, with special attention given to international customers sourcing from multiple sites.
  • Maintain regular interaction with operations to understand plant capabilities, production capacities and constraints. Collaborate with product managers to leverage this knowledge and identify products that maximize revenue and margin per kg.
  • Assess incoming price requests and issue quotations in line with group turnaround targets, pricing guidelines and profit parameters.
  • Maintain and validate the pricing/cost conditions database to reflect accurate price setting and periodic price updates.
  • Sales contract management: monitor sales contract status against volume/term commitments. Systematically report to stakeholders progress and potential issues
  • Define price setting for new product launches in collaboration with product managers
  • Actively support the business development team in commercial negotiations
  • In collaboration with the business development team, maintain direct and regular contact with customers to provide relevant market information and discuss/defend price evolution.
  • Lead the sales forecast process by soliciting timely input from business development team, implementing controls and conducting regular performance reviews with all stakeholders. Report performance vs targets, identifying gaps to plan and remediation.
  • Play a lead role in the annual budgeting process through close coordination with local and national finance leadership

Key Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field
  • An established bias for action.
  • Curious and diligent with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Proven negotiation and relationship-building skills with a focus on beneficial customer outcomes
  • Analytical mindset. Ability to efficiently interpret large amounts of data and make strategic recommendations
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities that effectively convey product value.
  • Experience in the food industry with knowledge of market trends and customer behavior
  • Commodities Finance, Sales Finance, or Analyst experience in commodities / Agri-Commodities would be an asset
  • Strong digital orientation with super-user capabilities in MS Office suite.
  • SAP experience an asset
  • CPA OR MBA would be an asset
